So I've gotten one response to my most recent story, and I'm curious as to whether anyone else has read it and, if they haven't, what turned them off of it. To that end, I've created a poll (behind the cut).

I want to stress that I'm not going to be making notes about who answers what; think of it as anonymous market research, only I don't think I can make a poll anonymous. *g* If the story didn't catch your attention/interest, I'd really like to know why not, for future reference.

You know, babes, it's worth noting that now that I'm thinking about it, I didn't see the story on my friends page, just when I was community hopping to check old comments and stuff. So I saw it posted in Special Hell, and then went over to your journal to read it, because I don't particularly like leaving comments in communities because I'm weird. I know that cupidsbow had a thing a few weeks back where nothing she wrote was showing on people's friends pages, and it mysteriously fixed itself after a few days. This entry showed up okay, but I was sort of shocked to see SR(R) in the comm, because I'd not seen it posted in your journal. I just figured that I was dense, but if you've not heard from anyone else about it. . .

It certainly could be that. I'm mostly curious, because I have my suspicons about why folks haven't read it. *g*

I'm not, like, dying or anything. I'm just curious....

sekrit ps: as a matter of fact, I'm working simultaneously on two more stories, so it's not like I'm heartbroken or dissuaded from writing

Well, one of them is the Elijah/Josh one that I think I told you about. Up to 2,000 words now, and they've finally arrived at the restaurant -- Elijah with a new appreciation for motorcycles and the boys who ride them, and Josh with lascivious intent and a pack of cloves.

The other one was an Elijah/Tobey Maguire that I'd started writing back in February, but I was reading hackthis and lalejandra's game of fic tig-tag today and one of them referenced a piece of gossip as inspiration. That particular piece of gossip (entitled "Lord of the Rumors") -- "Which young male star of a successful epic movie needs to be careful about making out with men in hotel elevators? The prying security guards at said hotel like keeping tapes of these encounters in case they ever get fired." -- dovetailed perfectly with something that happened in the prequel to this story, and so I had sudden inspiration tonight. Fueled, no doubt, by lo-carb chocolate bars and diet Coke. *g*

No, it just shows that I'm obsessive about clicking on links. All of them. *g* That's why I spent all fucking day on my f-list (which is down to like skip=240 now).

Ah, but this is a fountain diet Coke, which is made with saccharin and not aspartame. Saccharin supposedly causes cancer (if one consumes one's body weight of it daily, which I doubt anyone does), while aspartame is a proven neurotoxin. And stop me before I go off on a whole tangent about artificial sweeteners.... *g* I can go for days on that particular topic.

That's actually another piece of information I was looking for: whether people aren't sending feedback because email feedback is too much trouble. (Another suspicion I had; LJ makes it so easy to just respond to a post as soon as you finish reading something.)

Because I waffled when posting a link, finally deciding not to post the story itself in a any communities except thespecialhell, mainly because I've recently discovered that you can apparently edit other folks' posts in a community, and I really don't like that when it comes to my fiction.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story, BTW. Thanks for letting me know.

Just wanted to second this: I am a bad, naughty fangirl who almost never emails fb. LJ comment, absolutely, if I liked something (say, if I were to rate it and got a 7/10 or better, I'll fb), but email... probably not going to unless whatever it was was absolutely *incredible*.

I'm still not sure I want to crosspost entire stories all over hell and gone like I did with my first few, but I'll take into account that my feedback ratio will suffer.

well...i think i can suggest that this might be a self-selecting poll??? b/c as i checked out the answers and realized that i was so far the only one admitting to not reading it or planning to...huge embarassment :-)

btw, you can make polls that are open to all;friends and viewable by all;friends;noone (somewhere in the header you gotta specify...it defaults to all, however)

Unfortunately, I think you're right. I was really mostly trying to either confirm or allay my suspicion that most of the people who regularly read my fic were avoiding this one because of the extensive list of pairings.

No need for embarrassment. I didn't expect you to read it; I know you don't do LotRiPS. And honestly, it wasn't intended to be a guilt-inducing thing or anything. I was just trying to figure out if I'd turned people off with the way I listed the pairings (or the simple fact that there were multiple pairings).

Re: poll options...

I know there are a lot of options for who can read and who can participate; I chose to make it open to all, in case there were people who said, "I would've read it, but it was f-locked and I don't ask to be friended just to read fiction." Or, something else related to that. Because that would be useful data to me, as well.
