Mardi Gras pics and movies and stuff
I wanted to also point out that Elijah was noticeably a) drunk, and b) getting off on the crowd reaction. He was being tremendously theatrical, reminding me (unsurprisingly) of Sir Ian with grand flourishes to his movement.
And after it was over, I realized I was an idiot. Instead of hanging out at the end of the route (which was near my hotel), I should've started at the beginning of the route and followed the float. Duh. I am obviously a bad stalker, as I fail to grasp one of the main connotations of the word "stalk." *sigh*
Okay, the movies are:
Elijah's float coming down the street and
the beginning of Elijah's musical number (before the people in front of me started holding up signs and screaming so you couldn't hear anymore)
They're zip files, so you'll have to download them to your own computer to play them. (I like my bandwidth the way it is.)

Mmmmmm. Also, anyone who can identify (from what little of the label we can see) what kind of beer Elijah is drinking (before tomorrow?) wins a virtual cookie and my undying gratitude. Yeah,

Now if only tomorrow goes as well, what with the meeting Dom and everything.
Also, I noticed that one of the two doubloons I got commemorates Elijah as Bacchus XXXVI. *g*

He's adorable, and it sounds like you're having a blast. I can't wait to get the extended version of all the stories when we're back in the same time zone again. (And good luck at the party tonight!)

*g* You, my dear, are obsessed.
I like that in a friend....
And yes, it was a fabulous costume and he looked incredible in it. He should be in something like Troy, where he gets a chance to play an ancient Greek or Roman. (He kind of reminded me of Commodus from Gladiator, but that might have been because I just saw the most incredible Gladiator music vid at the con this weekend....)
Yeah, we'll talk more when you get home. If, of course, I remember anything. *looks lovingly at flask of Captain Morgan's*
(He's so cute! *wibble*)

I'm sure my boss will love coming by and seeing me perusing beer labels at work. "It's just research, really."

I don't know that that was intentional, because he was actually handing them out for a bit, when he ran out of beads. *g* (And yes, I would've killed for one, but I'm too nice. The only way I got the beads was to put my foot on them when I missed catching them, and someone tried to take them out from under my foot before I could bend down and pick them up. *boggles at people*
Luckily, I'd read several Mardi Gras FAQs, so I knew what to expect. *g*
I started to say that there are more pics, but then I looked at them and all the ones with the beer in them are the ones I put up, so.... But don't stress too much if you don't figure it out; I just thought it was a challenge that'd be right up your alley.
(Oh, and I want you to know that you're my hook for tonight. *g* "My friend was going to come with me, but she was in a car accident a few weeks ago--she's fine, but her car was totalled--and so she couldn't afford it. But she gave me some money and asked me to buy you guys a drink on her behalf." *g*)
Re:
That's lovely!
(And was just wondering what kind of beer you were handing out. Is it a local product? You know, the Shiner Bock out of Texas is quite nice... Have you tried it? It's brown and has flavor, but isn't all that bitter.)
Re:
Go read here.
And to mix all my fandoms to hell, Stella Artois ties in with Highlander fandom because Peter Wingfield did ads for them a few years back.

Re:
Of course, if I were there, I would be all geeky and ask whether it was dangerous assigning them characters with related mythologies. After all, shouldn't Bacchus' fan girls rip Orpheus limb from limb? Then I would expect them to look at me blankly and laugh politely wondering what sort of weird fan girl I was, anyway. Either that or they've already heard that question a thousand times.
I am so excited. (research high) I hope the party tonight is fun.

I'm not sure about Dom, but Elijah seems to be reasonably well-read. Whether he knows his mythology, though, is anyone's guess.
Of course, I was all impressed with how erudite he was in some interviews a while back, and then after seeing half a dozen done at about the same time, I realized that he was using the same answer (with minor modifications) to several related questions. Now I'm not sure if it was a canned answer, or if he just fell into the habit of answering that way. I mean, I know I sort of have a stock answer when it comes to explaining slash, but that doesn't mean that it's not my answer, nor that I didn't spend time formulating it in the beginning.
I am so excited.
You and me both!

That's so cute!
I hope the party tonight is fun.
I'll try to post about it when I get back. I'll also try to take photos, but I don't want to be the only one looking like an obsessive fangirl, so if I'm the only one with a camera I probably won't take many (at least not obtrusively *g*).

He has been privately tutored... I would guess he has some good (Monarch notes level) insights into some texts, but whether you actually catch a subject/text he knows would be rather spotty.
Now Viggo Mortensen or Billy Boyd (or Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee of course... and perhaps even Orlando Bloom)? I'd be disappointed if they didn't get it.
I don't want to be the only one looking like an obsessive fangirl
Highly Unlikely
But, yeah, you definitely want to look suave. *grin* Did you remember to have something with you to get autographed? (Or would it have to be another tattoo?

Of course (and yet another reason for adoration), he's said in interviews that his favorite subject was always English/literature. Nothing like a well-read boy.
Now Viggo Mortensen or Billy Boyd (or Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee of course... and perhaps even Orlando Bloom)? I'd be disappointed if they didn't get it.
I'm not sure about Viggo. He was educated here, though I don't know to what level, but I don't know if he has any interest in history/mythology/literature (any of which would probably leave him with the requisite knowledge).
Yes, those given a classical British education should know. Which, actually, should include not only Orlando, but Dom as well. I can't imagine Dom's parents letting him go to a substandard school, since they're German and education is very important to all the Germans I know. Plus, isn't his mother a schoolteacher? *looks it up on IMDB* Nope, my gender-biased bad. His father is a teacher. And he was "studying English Literature, Drama and Geography at Sixth Form College" when he got his first series part, which sounds to me like he's got a good classical background.
Did you remember to have something with you to get autographed? (Or would it have to be another tattoo?)
While I'm not averse to another tattoo, I did remember to bring the booklets from the extended DVDs -- one for you and one for me. Now I just have to remember to coach them on your name, since it's not the traditional spelling. *g*

I have a guess!
There is a Pelican brewing company in Louisiana. And since there appears to be a pelican in the upper left of the label, that's my guess.
*happy research dance of glee*

You rock!
Re:
The company does not seem to have a website and is not even listed on most listings (short listings) of breweries in Louisiana. The one that did list it, called it a contract brewery... I guess primarily for tourism and large events like Mardi Gras.
