Opinions?

Since everyone is being so helpful with suggestions re: taking a taxi, I thought I'd throw out another question.

This is my dress:

(Image stolen from Torrid's website, since I don't have a pic of me wearing it yet. And on me? Much less waist, much more boobs.) I can't tell how it's going to show up on a Windows machine, but on my iBook it looks a lot darker in the pic than in reality. It's a dark, plummish purple with silver.

I have two potential pairs of shoes to wear with it: black velvet mary-jane flats (which go with my black velvet purse) or black patent leather pumps with 3-4" heels. I was trying to describe everything when I suddenly realized that I've got a digital camera and my FTP software works now. Duh.

The patent leather pumps

are almost fetish-y, except that they're a little plain and the heels are square and kind of conservative (rather than spiked, which is what says "fetish" to me). But they're hot, and I like heels. But I don't know how much standing I'm going to have to do tonight. And I'm already 5'7" in flats.

The mary-janes (blurry photo, sorry)

are cute, they match my purse, they keep me at the same height as the boys, and they're comfortable.

And if I wear the pumps, I'm probably going to wear a black garter belt and seam-up-the-back black stockings, though they probably won't get seen in a floor-length dress. Which is actually an argument against the pumps, because I'd kind of like to be comfortable when I'm making an idiot of myself in front of Dom (and maybe Elijah).

Opinions?

I think the pumps would look better with the dress, but if I were dressing I would wear the mary-janes.

1) You described a cocktail party -- much standing

2) More comfort

3) It goes with your purse, and so won't be completely out of place

4) Much more comfort

5) Less than a 40% chance that they will look at your shoes

6) It's all about the comfort

... Then again, being taller would put their eyeline at boob level. Wait, no... not that much taller. Go with the Mary Janes.

agree for all the above reasons!

Adding my voice to the chorus for Mary Janes, for both the reasons listed and because I find slightly unorthodox clothing choices hot, and Mary Janes aren't always what one would expect with a proper dress, you know? But it's got that individualistic thing going on, and I think that it'd be supercute. Because I have issues like that.

Um. Okay, so, acutally, "becuase you're going to be standing a lot" sounds like a much better (and less insane) reason to support the Mary Janes. So, that.

Also, and mostly unrelated, but that dress looks to be le hot, and I want pictures when you get back. Do you hear me? PICTURES!

I'm sure that no one's going to think that the tattoos are weird, hon. It's Mardi Gras, for god's sake. It's not exactly known for being the centre of normalcy, you know? Anyhow, you're hot. It'll be fine.

Oh, my god. Okay, so, I love the dress that you have, but the backup outfit sounds amazingly hot, and now you have to find something else really cool to go to so that you have an excuse to wear it, okay? And by "wear it" I mostly mean "take pictures of yourself in it".

Man. For someone who rarely gets dressed up, I sure am fascinated by other people's clothing.

(Randomly, but remember the early 90s when it was all the rage to wear those long, flowing flowery skirts with carpenter boots? Is it so wrong that I kind of miss that a little? Because that was a kindadressy look that I could *pull*, man.)

That was in style? Ever? Really? I feel so trendy now.

It was very much the thing for a while from about. . . God. I guess '93 - '95ish? It was a long-standing trend, even. Why I know this is anyone's guess.

I was very fond of that trend, though. I still kind of am, truth be told.

Dress is so cute! And corsets suck, ugh. But go with the Mary Jane's since comfort is important. And if you can, give Elijah a kiss for me. :-D

[identity profile] guardian-writer.livejournal.com 2004-02-23 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Hon, if I'm kissing Elijah, it's going to be all for me. *g* What of it I'll be able to remember with my brains leaking out my ears....
LOL. Not that I'd blame you for losing you dressbrains to him. *evil grin*

Way too late *damn this living on the other side of the world stupid time zones*

Comfort always good, but I like your heels!! Nothing wrong with having the cleavage at the boys' eye level.

And if they are gay *g* then fabulous will make the good impression..

And the tats *interest perked* Photos? Can we (I) see piccies? I only have two but I love them to death and want more. More. More.

Hope you had a fab time at the party, want to hear all about it in great detail. Must live vicariously through you while stewing in the jealousy.
